August 12, 2016 – Movie District will be closing in preparations for the new attraction(s) coming next year, Planet SIX has learned.
In 1998, a 4.9-acre expansion project called the Movie District opened. This themed area became the home to 6 attractions, a movie back lot, a stunt show, studio facades, and several shops.
Gold Rusher - A Runaway Mine Coaster, Magic Mountain's first & oldest coaster
Free Fall - DISMANTLED IN 2008 - A 10 story drop ride
Rock Climbing Wall - A rock climbing wall themed to a damaged brick building
Scrambler - A classic Scrambler flat ride
Sandblaster - A Typical Bumper Car Attraction
THE RIDDLER's Revenge - The World's Tallest, Longest & Fastest Stand Up Coaster
Tidal Wave - 50 foot shoot the chute ride
Restaurants & Giftshop:
JB Smokehouse - A grab n' go shop with signature tri tip, baby back ribs, salmon, pulled pork and turkey legs.
Waterfront - An outdoor grab n' go food court ranging from pizza, chicken strips, and vegetarian options.
Studio 6F - A cafe and gift shop with Six Flags souvenirs.
Action Theater - DEMOLISHED IN 2016 - This arena was home to the BATMAN: Stunt Show and was later used as a maze venue for the popular AFTERMATH maze.
THE RIDDLER's Revenge, Rock Climbing Wall, JB's Smokehouse & Tidal Wave are to close for several months to build the new attraction and re-imagine the area.
An expansion of DC Universe has long been expected as a possible replacement for the ill-fated Movie District theme. The original DC Universe-themed land opened in 2011 with the introduction of GREEN LANTERN: First Flight coaster. Such an expansion would make the comic-theme land the biggest in Six Flags Magic Mountain history.
No specific date has been confirmed, though Mid-Septemeber, around the beginning of Fright Fest, has been confirmed for it to close.
